Pfizer Drops Application To Switch Viagra 50mg To Non-Prescription Status In Europe

Pfizer announced today that it has withdrawn its application to switch the legal status of the 50 mg tablet strength of Viagra from 'prescription only' to 'non-prescription' in the European Union (EU). Viagra is a well established oral medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and all current doses of Viagra will continue to be available to patients by prescription from their doctor.

Adult Male Circumcision Not Linked To Sexual Dysfunction

The World Health Organization recommends male circumcision as an important element in HIV prevention programs, and the procedure is promoted in high-risk heterosexual populations. While the benefits of circumcision are well-documented (they also include reduced rates of urinary tract infection, penile cancer, and cervical cancer and chlamydia in female partners), there remains a concern that adult circumcision may impair sexual function.

Growing Number Of Young Prostate Cancer Patients Need 'sexual Rehabilitation'

Prostate cancer is being detected and treated at an earlier age, resulting in more cases of erectile dysfunction in younger men. While for many this is a temporary setback, for some it can take much longer and others will never recover their former capability. Dr Michael Lowy from Sydney Men's Health, said the result was a growing demand for "sexual rehabilitation" services, an evolving scientific and clinical branch of sexual medicine and urology.

Randomized Phase II Trial Evaluation Of Erectile Function After Attempted Unilateral Cavernous Nerve-Sparing Retropubic Radical Prostatectomy

UroToday.com - In 1999, Kim et al. from Baylor College of Medicine reported promising potency results from bilateral interposition of sural nerve grafts after bilateral non nerve sparing radical prostatectomy (RP). Our institution was able to duplicate these findings in the bilateral graft model as well. However, we were not sure how to properly analyze the efficacy of a unilateral nerve sparing plus unilateral non-nerve sparing with and without a unilateral sural nerve graft.

CHEST 2008: New Pulmonary Hypertension Research Presented

#6363 TADALAFIL PROVES EFFECTIVE THERAPY FOR PULMONARY HYPERTENSION New research shows that the erectile dysfunction drug, tadalafil, may be an effective adjunct therapy for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Italian researchers randomized 405 patients with PAH, of whom 53 percent were taking concomitant bosentan, to two study arms. The groups received either tadalafil or placebo orally once daily as monotherapy or as add-on therapy to bosentan.

Link Found Between Obesity And Erectile Dysfunction

A new study states that obese men with erectile dysfunction (ED) are shown to have low levels of hormones, such as testosterone. The findings also show that certain conditions associated with obesity, particularly hypertension, are the most important determinants of obesity-related ED. The study was published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.

An expert has written an article on bmj.com that suggests a link between heart attacks and erectile dysfunction. Dr Geoffrey Hackett (Good Hope Hospital, Birmingham, UK) says that erectile dysfunction gives a two to three year early warning of a heart attack, but doctors are largely ignoring the relationship.

Sexual dysfunction is prevalent long after physical injuries from major trauma have been treated and resolved. Nearly a third of patients who had sustained moderate to severe trauma reported some degree of sexual dysfunction, and most characterized the dysfunction as severe, a year after a traumatic event.

The rapidity of ejaculation in men is genetically determined. This is the result of research by Utrecht University. Neuropsychiatrist Dr Marcel Waldinger and Pharmacological Researcher Paddy Janssen studied 89 Dutch men with premature ejaculation and will publish the results this week in the renowned International scientific journal the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Evidence that inexpensive device boosts fuel economy by up to 20 percent Amid sticker-shock fuel prices, researchers in Pennsylvania are reporting results of laboratory tests and road tests verifying that a simple, inexpensive device attached to a car engine's fuel injector can boost gas mileage by up to 20 percent. That translates into several more precious miles per gallon, they say.

Shocking Pictures To Appear On Cigarette Packets In UK On 1st October

The UK's ten million Smokers may see pictures of rotting teeth, throat cancer, and indications of male impotence (erectile dysfunction) on cigarette packets they buy at the beginning of October. The Department of Health (DoH) says "The warnings illustrate the devastating effects that tobacco can have on health." Written warnings were introduced in January 2003.
