SKIN AGING
20 to 40 Years
Changes In Skin From Ages 20 to 30
These are the years when individuals first start to
notice the impact of the aftermath of adolescence. Sun
exposure and years of use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs
will start to make their mark, if these practices are
not curtailed during the twenties.
The beginnings of fine lines and slight dulling of
the skin are not uncommon. Continuing these practices
only causes the problems to compound later in life.
Pregnancy - This is also the era of the first
pregnancy. Pregnancy places stress on the entire body,
and many of the effects of the process and hormonal
changes show up on the skin. This includes:
- Stretch marks - may appear as vivid red lines.
Whilst these general fade over time, to light silvery
marks, they do not go away completely on their own.
- Varicose and spider veins
- Stubborn fat deposits
- Skin discoloration
- Excessive hair growth
- Acne
Birth Control Pills – produce hormonal
changes in the body. Common side effects relating to
the skin are the appearance of excess hair and color
changes.
Changes In Skin From Ages 30 -40
Signs of aging become more apparent in this decade,
particularly for those who did not heed the warnings
in their teens and twenties. Common aging signs are:
- Skin damage due sun exposure, and smoking
- Redistribution of fat to bellies and thighs
- Lines on the forehead or around the eyes and mouth
- Facial veins and varicose or spider leg veins
- Hair loss and premature greying
Fortunately, since the skin is still elastic, and
the body is still functioning well, a prompt response
leads to successful outcomes.
Lifestyle choices become critical during this decade
and regular checks for skin cancer should be included
in medical routines. Fortunately, people in this age
group are more healthy, active, and youthful than ever.
