Arrhythmia - Irregular Heart Beat
Arrythmia refers to an irregular heartbeat either with
a regular heart rate or an abnormal heart rate. An arrhythmia
can be silent and not cause any symptoms. Arrhythmia
and abnormal heart rate do not necessarily occur together.
- A slow heart rate [less than 60 beats per minute]
is known as bradycardia. Associated arrhythmias are
referred to as bradyarrhythmias.
- A normal heart rate is 50 to 100 beats
per minute.
- Rapid heart rate [ over 100 beats per minute] is
known as tachycardia, and when accompaniesd with arrhythmia,
it is called tachyarrhythmia.
In the United Statesalone, more than 850,000 people
are hospitalized for an arrhythmia each year.
