Skin Care Cream Ingredients - Glycolic Acid
About Glycolic Acid
Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid [AHA] which
is a key ingredient in microdermabrasion products.
Glycolic Acid Polymer Complex or Lactic Acid is also
a common ingredient in both cleansing and repairing
anti aging skin care products.
Many people find Glycolic Acid and AHA containing
products irritate their skin, especially those with
dark skins. They can also lead to skin whitening or
blotchiness.
The possible irritation to the skin of the AHA in the
form of glycolic or lactic acid in cosmetics depends
largely upon the percentage in the formula.
- AHA-based products distributed by aestheticians
or physicians contain around 20-30 percent.
- Over-the-counter products generally contain around
10 percent.
For safe home usage, the AHA concentration in a product
should not be more than 10 percent. Unfortunately, most
product labels or packaging do not give the percentage
of glcolic acid. Refer to the manufacturers website,
or contact their Customer Support.
