MENTAL WELLNESS
Introduction
In Western medicine, the focus is most often on fighting
illness, rather than encouraging good health. The ancient
art of Acupuncture takes an opposite perspective. The
Acupuncturist seeks not to fight disease, but to maintain
health, with the ‘patient’ treated as a
whole. The mind, body, diet and lifestyle are all elements
of focus; understanding that where one area is in discord,
symptoms appear in other elements.
Mental wellness is also too often associated with
mental illness and seen as something that only receives
attention when we suffer an emtional or mental wellbeing
set back. Mental wellness analysis and tests are often
discounted from our annual health checks; many of us
believing that any unwellnesss or imbalance in this
area is unacceptable to society.
Fortunately this attitude is now changing, but most
of us currently reaching middle age have been conditioned
with this flawed logic.
In reality, our mental well-being needs as much care
and attention as our diet and exerices programs.
